FROM ESSEX to EVERYWHERE (An Airline Pilot’s Life)

Over a period of some fifty-six years, from his first take-off in 1952 until his last touchdown in the summer of 2008, David Willmott logged around 26,000 hours of flying time in fifty different types of aircraft.  He also spent a further 2,000 hours training other pilots on simulators and worked for no fewer than thirty employers in various parts of the world.

As he progressed through his career he flew both passengers and freight on aircraft powered by piston engines, turbo-prop and jets. enduring frequent airline bankruptcies and periods of unemployment.

Fortunately, his determination and experience meant that he was never out of work for very long, though he often had to accept flying jobs in less salubrious parts of the world that many otheer pilots would have declined.
